March Reception at Stockton 02/17/2012
The new art gallery at Stockton is really beautiful. Vaughn and I saw it recently and were very impressed with the gallery and the faculty art show that was on display. My sculpture, Little Girl, is part of the digital slideshow for the Stockton Alumni Exhibit. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone is doing. I hope this will be an annual exhibit. Add Comment This weekend George Nick talked about his process to a rapt audience. I love to hear what motivates other painters. He said that he's been painting for 72 years. He drives around in a red truck and looks for his next painting which he completes in thick strokes of oil paint from his rolling studio. I liked his work very much. I forgot my camera and Caz Boyd sent me some shots that she took at the event. This one gives a good view of the artist surrounded by his paintings and some of the people who attended the talk. Three Bowls and a Pitcher 01/15/2012
I'm finding out that it's not so easy for me to post regularly. This is my first post of the new year and it's already the middle of January. Seems like I need to make a resolution or something. . . I have been making raggedy bowls for a while now. I really like the fact that they are built from slabs of clay and have a rough, unfinished appearance. The edges are usually left a bit ragged. I smooth the edges with a finger or cut off errant pieces of clay that detract from what I'm trying to accomplish. Three of my latest bowls are pictured here. The last photo is of a pitcher that I like for the surface decoration. Finally a painting! 12/01/2011
I think I've had painter's block. This is my first new painting in quite a while. I'm hoping this gets me warmed up for better things. Celebration of the Oyster 11/30/2011
The Clay College in Millville is currently showing an exhibit called "Celebration of the Oyster." My oyster plate is shown on display here. The centerpiece of the show is a collection of antique oyster plates, but there are several outstanding and creative representations of the oyster plate by local artisans as well. My plate is a stylized version of oyster shells and pearls. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. I fully expected the glazing process to be a disappointment, but I was pleased to see that the colors remained separate since this was my first attempt using masking techniques. It's not perfect, but I like it. The Face 10/02/2011
My best friends and I meet every now and then for a "sistahs breffis" which involves omelets, waffles, calories and creativity. This face was my effort. She's a little cross-eyed at the moment, but I think this is a good start. I'm still figuring out how she will express herself. Oh, and the breakfast was great too. Little Girl 09/30/2011
This is my first sculpture since college. I call her Little Girl. I'm waiting for her to dry completely so she can be put in the kiln. She has some rough patches, but I still like her. First Post! 09/28/2011
This first post is an experiment. Since I'll be posting pictures and a few words here, I want to see how it's going to look. I recently attended a beautiful wedding on the beach in Cape May and snapped this picture. These are houses that look out on the ocean. Well, summer is officially over now so it's time to get to work. I just hope that writing the words will make it so. | AuthorI'm a painter who throws pots and forms clay, an art appreciator, a gallery and museum haunter and a lover of lovely graphics. I'm a mother and a wife who has always liked the challenge of making the things I see in my mind. In short, I'm a woman who doesn't have enough time...
